The name points to gold, and to a more subdued, deeply drawn register, the kind an old crown or long-kept insignia has. It comes into its own on ornamental borders, crowns and diadems, on the grips and pommels of weapons, on temple and heraldic detail and on medals and badges. It also works well as an accent on a dark base, where a few gold places are enough for the whole figure to gain a richer look.
Stir the container properly before picking the paint up. The thinner intended for this range and the thinning ratio are stated by the manufacturer and those instructions take precedence over any general advice. Gold tones look best on a smooth, well-prepared surface, so wash the area beforehand, degrease it and sand any unevenness away. Apply in thin coats and let them dry; one heavy coat floods the engraving and the ornamental detail is lost in it. Small areas are easier to draw with a pointed brush of short, firm hair.
