Gunze Gundam Marker Mecha Gray - a gray marker pen for mechanical parts

A coloring marker pen with a pigment paint on an alcohol base. It is not a bottled paint and not a weathering product: the paint is sealed in the marker pen and is applied directly with the tip. The shade Mecha Gray is a technical gray which the manufacturer tuned to inner frames, joints, hydraulics and other mechanical parts of robot kits, that is to the parts meant to look metallic and to stand apart from the colored panels of the outer shell. The manufacturer is the Japanese firm Gunze.

Use

• Shake the marker pen before use and work the tip in on an offcut, so that it starts drawing evenly.
• For touch-ups after nipping the parts from the sprue, apply the paint in dabs and let it dry; only then judge whether a second coat is needed.
• The gray works well for bringing out the edges and the edging of a frame: go over an edge with a short stroke, not with a long line.
• Do not use the marker pen on large areas; the strokes overlap and an uneven texture results.
• If you want to matte the resulting color down or give it a sheen, try the clear coat on a hidden place first: a solvent-based clear coat can make an alcohol-based paint bleed.

For builders of robot kits who want to set the inner frame apart from the outer panels without mixing paint and preparing an airbrush. It also suits quick touch-ups of mechanical parts on ordinary plastic models and modelers who build without spraying equipment.
