This is a diorama accessory cast in resin, not a kit of a model vehicle or aircraft. The set represents a cross with the figure of the crucified Christ in 1:48 scale and serves as a scenic element for dioramas and vignettes. A wayside cross, a wayside shrine or a cross on a village green is one of the typical marks of the European, and especially the Central European, landscape, so the accessory suits scenes set in Bohemia and Moravia, Austria, Bavaria, Poland or France. It is made by the Czech maker Firma49, which specializes in resin accessories and details.

Use and fitting

• First wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water to remove the mold release residue.
• Cut the casting blocks off with a sharp scalpel or a fine saw; never break them off.
• Sand the remains of the casting blocks with fine sandpaper, ideally wet and always with respiratory protection.
• Bond with super glue (cyanoacrylate): ordinary plastic cement does not hold on resin.
• Anchor the cross into the diorama base with a wire pin; this strengthens the joint considerably.

Painting tips

Apply a primer to the resin first, otherwise paint will hold badly. Build the wood of the cross up from a darker brown base; use a dry brush to bring out the grain, the edges and the cracked surface. A gray-green wash and a hint of moss or lichen at the foot of the cross will complete the patina. Build the flesh tone of the figure on a lighter skin shade, darkening the recesses with a filter and lightening the raised areas. Fine dust pigments on the lower part of the cross will support the weathered impression.
