A finished collector model of the British Centurion Mk.III tank in 1:72 scale, in the rendering of A Squadron, 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars, Korea 1951.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Centurion came at the close of the Second World War, but it made its real name only afterwards. The Mk.III version received the 83.4 millimeter gun known as the 20-pounder, and gun stabilization, thanks to which it could be aimed on the move. The power came from a V12 derived from an aero engine, so the tank had a respectable output for its weight. In Korea in 1951 something nobody expected became clear: a machine built for the plains of Europe was able to scramble up the steep Korean hills and support the infantry where, by all expectations, a heavy tank had no way of getting.
The model in 1:72 scale comes finished, assembled and painted, with the markings of A Squadron, 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars from Korea in 1951. Nothing is glued, filled or sprayed on; the model only has to be unpacked and stood up. What is captured is a particular machine at a particular time and in a particular unit rather than a generic representation, which anyone assembling a display case by battlefield will appreciate.
It suits collectors of postwar and British vehicles and those interested in the Korean War, which tends to be overlooked in collections and for which fewer finished models are made than for the Second World War. The 1:72 scale keeps the proportion with other vehicles and aircraft of the same size. When carrying it, it is better to take the model by the bottom of the hull than by the gun barrel.
A finished model is supplied. It is not a kit, so the package holds no glue, paints or decals, and a display case or a base is not included either, unless stated otherwise.
