Mirage Hobby Sanding Sponge 1000 grit is a set of six flexible sanding sponges with a medium 1000 grit - for smoothing a surface after coarser sanding and for preparing parts for primer. They can be used dry or wet, and the sponge is washable and reusable.

A set of six flexible foam sanding sponges from the Polish maker Mirage Hobby with a grit of 1000. This is a modeling tool, not a kit: the abrasive grit sits on pliable foam, so the sponge follows rounded shapes and does not sand flats into the curves of a fuselage, a cowling or a turret. It can be used dry or wet, and after work it is enough to rinse it with water and let it dry - the sponge is reusable.
A thousand is a medium grit: it no longer removes material the way coarser abrasives do but smooths away the marks they have left. With abrasives the rule is that the lower the number, the coarser the grit: four hundred removes material fast, fifteen hundred only smooths. Always work therefore from a coarser grit to a finer one and do not skip steps - a fine sponge will never smooth out the grooves left by a coarse one, it will only polish them. A grit of 1000 is therefore the natural second step - it comes after coarser sanding (after four hundred, say) and prepares the surface so that primer holds on it and does not emphasize grooves.
For plastic modelers who build aircraft, vehicles, ships and figures and need to sand shapes that flat sandpaper cannot reach. The flexible foam backing follows the curve of a fuselage, a wing, a turret or a helmet and leaves neither flats nor sanded-through edges. A sponge can be cut up to reach into narrow places as well. A grit of 1000 is the most all-round choice for any toolbox - it is used on practically every model right before the primer comes up.
The package contains 6 pieces. After work, rinse the sponge with clean water, squeeze it out and let it dry freely - it will regain its springiness and can be used again.
