A masking set for a model of the Fw 190 D-9 in the early production build, 1:48 scale, prepared for the Miniart kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of masks makes the most demanding part of painting easier, that is the hard boundaries on the glazing and on other precisely bounded areas. The masks are shaped to match the parts of a particular kit, in this case the model of the Fw 190 D-9 in the early production build from Miniart, so cutting out and trying by eye falls away. Check the extent of the masks, that is whether they cover only the canopy or the wheels and other areas as well, against the manufacturer information.
The Fw 190 D-9 is the late version of the German Fw 190 fighter with a lengthened nose and a liquid-cooled inverted V12 Jumo 213 engine. The radiator is annular and sits right behind the propeller blades, which is why at first glance the nose resembles the radial engine of the earlier A-series versions. The early production designation in the name refers to the earlier machines of the D-9 series, which differ from the later ones in details of the airframe equipment.
The masks are applied to a clean and degreased surface before spraying, never after it. Press the edges down with a toothpick or a blunt tip so that paint does not run underneath. Spray thinly and preferably in several passes, because a heavy coat of paint creates a step at the edge of the mask. Lift the mask off shortly after the paint has dried, while it can still be peeled away without tearing the finish. Correct any run at the edge with a brush while the repair is still small.
A masking set is supplied. The kit, paints and decals do not belong to it, unless stated otherwise.
