The M2 and M3 half-tracks rested on a tracked bogie at the rear but steered with their front wheels. Those were the first to lose grip on a frozen or soaked road, so crews fitted chains to exactly those wheels. A model with chains then does not look like a vehicle from a parade, but like a machine that had been working its way along a winter road the day before.
Two pairs of wheels with chains in 1:35 scale. The front axle of the vehicle takes two wheels, so the second pair is left over. The chains are molded onto the wheels, which saves assembling them from small parts.
The parts are not polystyrene and plastic cement does not work on them; use cyanoacrylate glue and degrease the mating surfaces first. After the primer, spray the wheels in the shade of the vehicle and then go over the chain links dry with a dark metal. Settle mud and snow into the gaps between the links and leave the metal rubbed bare on their crowns, because that is where the chain scuffs against the ground. Carry the same mud onto the fenders, or the wheel will look detached from the vehicle.
