STEPPE TUFTS 12MM

Steppe Tufts 12 mm (AK interactive)

Grass tufts 12 mm tall in a steppe key, that is in the tones of dry grass drawn out by the sun in open country. Twelve millimeters is a lot for a tuft: it is tall, practically unmown growth that in larger scales reaches above a figure's ankle, and on a vehicle it covers the lower part of the running gear. That is exactly why these tufts are not used across an area as a lawn but as a striking landscape feature: a strip of tall grass along a road, an overgrown ditch, a field margin above a plot or an unkempt area around an abandoned building.

Use

• Tall tufts work best in clusters and strips; a single tuft in the middle of open ground looks lonely and unnatural.
• Combine them with lower tufts and scatter material: the transition from tall grass to low gives a scene depth and scale.
• In steppe and dry scenery they suit dust effects on equipment and parched earth with no green tones.
• The fibers can be combed out to the sides with your fingers or bent one way, as if the wind had run through them.
• Tall growth is rewarding at the edge of a diorama: it closes the scene naturally and draws attention away from the edge of the base.

Who they are for

For builders of dioramas of open country, of steppe and field scenes, and for modelers who want to suggest that a vehicle is standing off the road in unkempt terrain. In larger scales they work as ordinary tall grass, while in smaller scales they read more as scrub than as a lawn.
