S-25OF unguided rocket in 1:32 scale from Temp Models

The set brings a 3D printed replica of the S-25OF unguided rocket in 1:32 scale from Temp Models. It is not a model of an aircraft but underwing armament with which you complete a finished build. The printed rendition gives the crisper edges of the stabilizing surfaces and finer surface detail than injection-molded plastic offers, and it does without a seam line across the whole body.

The real subject

The rockets of the S-25 family are large-caliber Soviet aircraft rockets which are carried in a single-use pod holding one rocket. The large caliber makes them a weapon for targets that smaller rockets cannot handle, and at the same time it means that an aircraft can lift only a few of them. The version designated OF carries a high-explosive fragmentation warhead, that is a combination of a fragmentation and a blast effect. Against the purely fragmentation version it can therefore manage targets with a degree of hardening as well, because besides the fragments it also acts with a blast wave.

Building and painting tips

The parts are printed from resin and are held only by thin supports. Cut them off with a sharp scalpel as close to the part as possible, sand the marks down with fine sandpaper and protect your airways while sanding. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Paint holds longer on a smooth print if you lay a thin coat of primer under it. Paint the underwing weapons separately and glue them onto the model only after the landing gear and the cockpit are finished.
