A stylized model of the British battlecruiser HMS Hood from the Warship Builder series, with a deliberately shortened hull and large superstructures.
Responsibility details are not available.
HMS Hood was a battlecruiser of the Royal Navy which served from the end of the First World War and for many years counted as the largest warship in the world. She combined the gun power of a battleship with high speed, which went with a long slender hull, and it is precisely that silhouette that makes her an easily recognized vessel. Her service ended in 1941 in the fighting in the Denmark Strait.
The item belongs to the Warship Builder series and sits among the shrunken, deliberately cute ship models. The hull is therefore pulled into a short stubby shape, while the superstructures, the funnels and the gun turrets stay large and easy to read. The result keeps the recognition features of the real subject but is not a scale reduction, and there is therefore no point in stating a scale for it.
Stylized ships of this kind will be appreciated by anyone who wants a subject on the shelf without the lengthy work of rigging and small armament, and by a collector putting a whole series side by side. It also serves well as a present for someone who does not build models and will appreciate the look rather than the accuracy of the shapes. The small surface of the model forgives mistakes and the finished piece takes up little room on a shelf, so it suits places where there is no space for large ship models.
Whether the item comes finished or to be assembled, and how many parts it consists of, is stated by the manufacturer on the packaging. Paints, glue and a base are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
