Six shades aimed at tire rubber, track steel and their wear: rubber black, gunmetal, rust, dark brown, ivory and black.
Responsibility details are not available.
The most common mistake on an otherwise handsome model is coal-black rubber. Real rubber has a grayish cast, after a few kilometers it gathers dust and the sidewalls fade sooner than the tread. The shade meant for tires therefore leans toward dark gray, and only the supplementary black is used for the deep shadows between the tread blocks. The ivory color from the same six serves to suggest the lettering on the sidewalls and the fading of old rubber.
On tracked running gear a different logic applies: the metal contact face is polished to a shine while running, while the connecting pins and the inner face of the links stay rusty. The metallic gunmetal and two brown tones are there for that, and they can be mixed according to the age of the vehicle. They are applied dry, best with a brush that has had most of the paint wiped out, so that they stay only on the edges.
The recommended procedure is simple: first an even base, then a thinned dark wash into the recesses, and finally drybrushing with a lighter tone over the edges. Rust is applied irregularly, ideally with a piece of sponge. All six are mutually mixable and serve just as well on wheeled trucks, artillery carriages and agricultural machinery.
