XGM202 Gundam Marker EX Trans-Am Holographic Red

The color

The holographic red carries fine reflective particles in its binder that break up the light, so the surface shifts between red and a rainbow glitter with the viewing angle. It is therefore not a covering paint in the usual sense but an effect layer meant to catch the eye on the model. The shade bears the name Trans-Am, a term from the Gundam setting, and the manufacturer's part number is XGM202.

Where you will use it

On accents of robots and science-fiction hardware, on effect parts and energy elements, inside nozzles and vents, on the small surfaces of visors and sensors, and on display pieces meant to play with color on a shelf. The effect stands out most on a smooth glossy surface: a flat, rough base scatters the reflection and the glitter is lost. It is worth trying a patch on a scrap first and only then going to the model.

How to apply the marker

• Before first use shake the contents and press the tip on waste paper several times, until the paint starts to flow.
• The reflective particles settle, so shake the marker during work as well.
• Work in small areas and run the strokes in one direction, so the reflection is not broken up.
• Let a layer dry before you correct it or add to it.
• Test how a clear coat gets along with it away from the model; a coat can dissolve the effect layer or suppress its glitter.
• Retract the tip after work and close the marker carefully.

What is in the box
