The real subject

The F-16 is a light fighter that spread from the 1970s onwards to dozens of air arms and is among the most numerous combat machines of its generation. The letter D in the designation distinguishes the two-seat version from the single-seat C, so on a model you have to allow for two seats and for markedly longer cockpit glazing. The Block 40 designation belongs to the production block in which the aircraft came off the line.

What kind of set this is

This is an add-on set from the Big Ed range, a combined accessory for aircraft models in 1:48 scale. Which individual sets the package holds, how many parts are in them and which release of the kit they are made for is given on the box and in the enclosed instructions; that is what is binding. Add-on sets tend to be tied to a particular kit, so compare its designation with the details on the box before buying.

Building tips

Go through the instructions in full before you separate anything. In a two-seat cockpit the order of the steps decides: whatever is to be seen under the glazing has to be finished and set in place before the cockpit is closed. Cut the surplus material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder off. Try every part dry first and only then glue it. Choose the glue according to the material of the parts and to the instructions, as ordinary cement for polystyrene may not work on all the parts. Wash and degrease the parts before painting, because paint does not hold on a greasy surface.

Who it is for

The set suits the modeler who wants to take a build of the F-16D beyond the contents of the box and does not mind working with small parts. The kit itself, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
