Coarse foliage has larger particles than the fine variant, so it creates more broken and more three-dimensional foliage with prominent shadows. It is used above all as the bulk base of the crowns of trees and of dense bushes, where structure and not a smooth surface is to be seen. The bright green shade matches young, spring or sunlit foliage; over a large area it can look garish on its own, but as a lighter accent over darker growth it creates exactly the contrast that real greenery breathes with.
Coat the armature of a tree or an area of terrain with thinned PVA or scenic glue and apply the material, or dip the armature into it. Once dry, tap the excess off and keep it. You achieve volume by repeating this in several layers; a combination of a darker base and bright green tops that get the most light looks natural. Finally, fix the finished growth with a fine misting of thinned glue through a sprayer. The shade can be toned down with very heavily thinned acrylic paint applied in a light mist.
