Forest Grass Mats

What it is for

Grass mats for making growth on a diorama, on a display board or on a base under figures. A mat is a continuous strip of grass layer on a flexible backing: it is enough to trim it to shape and glue it on, so an area is finished substantially faster than by scattering scatter in layers. The shades match a woodland setting, that is muted greens with a brown undertone of the kind that grows in the shade of trees and at the edges of clearings.

How to work with them

Lay the mat on the ground, trace the shape and trim it with scissors or a sharp blade from the back. It is glued with PVA glue applied in a thin layer; the ground should be level and free of dust. Run the joins along breaks in the ground, paths or the edges of growth, where the eye does not look for them, and tease the edges of the individual pieces out with your fingers or tweezers, so that the transition is not visible as a straight line.

Tips for a true result

• Paint the ground under the mat a darker earthy color, so that places showing through do not stand out.
• Break up an even area by adding scatter, small bushes or leaves.
• Suggest worn paths and ruts by pressing the pile down or trimming it back in part.
• Lay the whole out dry before gluing and check how the pieces follow one another.

They suit builders of dioramas, railroad layouts and equally modelers who want to set a figure or a vehicle on a ready-made base. A base, trees, figures and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
