A Warpaint series monograph on the American Grumman F6F Hellcat carrier fighter by Charles Stafrace. It is a publication, not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Grumman F6F Hellcat was an American carrier fighter of the Second World War and from 1943 the main fighter type of US naval aviation in the Pacific. It followed on from the older Wildcat but was larger, heavier and considerably more powerful. It was powered by a Double Wasp radial piston engine and armed with six heavy machine guns in the wing. For carrier service the wing folded back along the fuselage, so the machines could be packed close together on deck. The Hellcat had a reputation as a tough and easily handled aircraft that forgave even a pilot with brief training, and night versions with a radar in a wing pod were developed from it.
Volume number 84 of the British Warpaint series covers the F6F Hellcat type as a complete monograph. The author is Charles Stafrace. Volumes in this series bring together a continuous text on the development and service of the type with an extensive visual section, which usually holds period photographs and a color supplement.
For modelers building one of the Hellcat versions who are looking for material on color schemes, markings and the appearance of particular machines, and for readers interested in American carrier aviation. The visual section is usually the most useful during a build: period photographs show the machine in service condition, that is with the equipment and wear a kit simplifies. The book is supplied on its own; a kit and decals are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
