Guide pin for silicone mould-L (Blue) from Master Tools are guide pins in size L for the accurate registration of two-part silicone molds. An aid for modelers who cast their own parts.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not a part for a model, but a workshop aid for casting. The guide pins serve to make the two halves of a two-part silicone mold sit together in the same position every time. Before the second half of the mold is cast, the pins are pushed or pressed into the surface of the first half, so that once it has cured there are projections on one side and exactly matching recesses on the other. The mold can then be taken apart and put back together freely without the halves shifting against each other.
The most common fault in home casting is exactly a shift of the mold halves. It shows up as a step on the parting line of the casting, which then has to be laboriously sanded away, and on small parts with thin edges the casting tends to be unusable outright. Guide pins remove this fault systematically and save time in cleaning up every copy. This variant is in the larger size L, which suits molds with a larger plan and bulkier castings.
Place the pins asymmetrically — at least one off the axis — so that the mold cannot be put together the wrong way round. Before casting the second half, apply a mold release agent to the cured first half and to the pins, otherwise the two layers of silicone will grow into a single piece. Place the pins at a sufficient distance from the part being cast, so that you do not weaken the wall of the mold. Smaller molds and small parts are better served by the variant in size S.
The silicone compound, the resin and the mold release agent are not included in the package.
