Sanding sponges of 1200 grit, 5 mm thick, a pack of 5 from DSPIAE are flexible sanding pads for curved surfaces, where a rigid sanding board would remove material only from the high points.
Responsibility details are not available.
A pack of five sanding sponges of 1200 grit and five millimeters thick. A sanding sponge differs from paper in having a flexible core: under pressure it bends and follows the shape of the surface. That is exactly why it suits curved parts, where a rigid plate would sand the high point and miss the hollow. A thickness of five millimeters is among the more yielding options. The sponge bends around a curve yet still holds its shape enough not to put a wave in the surface.
A clogged sponge bites considerably worse than a clean one and then tends to smear the surface rather than sand it. Most sanding sponges can be rinsed in lukewarm water and left to dry, but for this particular pack the manufacturer does not state that, so proceed carefully and never wring the sponge out by twisting, as that tears the core. If you work wet, dry the model thoroughly before the next step so that no moisture stays under the primer.
For modelers of aircraft, cars and figures, that is, everywhere curved surfaces are the rule and flat ones are few. A pack of five leaves room not to economize and to swap a clogged piece before the surface starts to suffer. For coarse leveling of filled joints, though, a sponge of this grit is not suitable; there, reach for a rigid sanding board with coarser paper.
Sanding produces fine dust, so work in a ventilated area and consider protecting your airways. Keep out of the reach of children.
