A flat modeling brush with synthetic hair from the manufacturer Italeri. Size No. 00 is among the smallest flat brushes in the range — one step larger than the very smallest No. 000, but still intended for fine detail work. It serves for painting, not for building the model.
A flat brush has a straight edge like a spade, whereas a round one tapers to a point. The straight stroke therefore covers a small area evenly without streaks and manages sharp edges and straight lines where colors meet. It is also excellent for drybrushing: an almost dry brush wiped on a rag is drawn lightly across edges and relief, so the paint stays only on the raised parts and picks out details and wear.
A good brush keeps the shape of its edge and does not shed hairs into the paint; a poor one soon splays and loses hairs. After painting, wash the brush out at once (acrylics with water, lacquer and enamel with the matching thinner) and never let paint dry at the ferrule by the handle — that is the most common way to ruin a brush beyond repair. Finally shape the hair and let it dry lying flat.
