Journeyman Miniatures - Garmr 105mm

Journeyman Miniatures - Garmr 105mm

The collector's bust Garmr from the Journeyman Miniatures series in the Green Stuff World range. The 105mm figure in the name is a designation of the size of the piece, not the scale of a real subject: with fantasy subjects no scale is given.

Size instead of scale

With fantasy subjects a scale loses its sense, because there is no real subject it could be related to. For these pieces the manufacturers therefore give the dimension in millimeters. For a collector that is the more practical information, because it says straight away how big the piece will be in a display case and whether it will fit in size with what is already at home. A designation in millimeters is in common use with figural sculpture and in no way lowers the value of a piece, it merely describes a different quantity than a scale ratio.

What decides with beings and creatures

• textures, because fur, hide and horn are read quite differently from smooth skin
• depth in the shaded areas, so that the volume is not lost under one flat shade
• the difference between the damp and the dry parts, which gives a creature life
• a muted palette, on which a local color accent stands out far more

Who Garmr is for

For collectors of fantasy figural sculpture and for modelers who want a large format with a pronounced texture instead of smooth areas. In a display case put together mostly from human portraits such a piece works as a striking counterpoint and draws attention even from a greater distance. The name of the character and the designation of the series stay in the manufacturer's original wording.
