Light green matches foliage at the start of the growing season and younger trees whose crown is not yet as dark and dense as that of mature woodland. In a scene it therefore does the job that dark trees cannot: it lights up the spot where the sun falls and separates the edge of a stand of trees from its shaded interior.
The package holds three pieces measuring 10.1 to 12.7 cm. Converted to an HO layout that means mature trees of around nine to eleven meters, so a tree of the kind that grows by a house or along a path, not a forest giant. The individual pieces are not the same height, and that is deliberate, because three identical trees side by side would give away their artificial origin.
Each piece is finished and already in leaf; no assembling or gluing of a crown is involved. A pin runs out of the bottom of the trunk and goes into a hole in the terrain, and a separate base belongs with it, which can be taken off. The base is useful at the stage when the composition is still being decided, because the tree stands on it by itself and can be moved anywhere around the scene.
The supplier recommends planting trees in groups and mixing the shades of foliage. That is a proven principle: nowhere does nature offer a single tone of green, and a cluster of differently colored crowns looks more believable than a regular orchard. The light pieces belong rather toward the front and on sunlit slopes, the darker ones at the back.
The terrain, the glue and the low greenery are not part of the package.
