This photo-etched set brings fine metal parts for faithfully rendering the slat, or cage, armor on a model of the Stryker wheeled armored vehicle in the M-1127 variant in 1:35 scale. Slat armor encircles the vehicle at a standoff from the hull and protects it against shaped-charge munitions. It is not a vehicle kit but a more demanding accessory for raising fidelity.
The Stryker M-1127 is the reconnaissance variant of the American eight-wheeled armored personnel carrier. On deployment the vehicles were fitted with slat armor, formed by a grid standing off from the hull, which detonates shaped-charge rounds before they reach the main armor.
Cage armor calls for careful separation of the parts from the fret, precise bends on a photo-etch bender and patient gluing with cyanoacrylate glue. Work to the enclosed diagram, and take care over even spacing and flatness. Degrease the parts and lay on a primer before painting.
The accessory is supplied unpainted, and the vehicle model itself is not included in the package.
