A mature maple with a high-set crown is one of the commonest trees of residential streets. It grows upright, gives dense shade, and that is exactly why it is planted by sidewalks and in the middle of gardens. It is a large deciduous tree along suburban streets and a shade tree in yards.
The model measures 11.4 cm, that is four and a half inches, and there is one piece in the package. It belongs among the taller pieces in the range of finished trees, so it serves well as the dominant feature of a scene with lower greenery arranged around it.
A tall tree changes the proportions in a diorama. Beside a house it suggests its age, over a road it narrows the view, and in a garden it creates a shaded spot where a bench or a parked car belongs. It pays to reckon with the crown taking up horizontal space as well, not only height.
A natural impression comes from combining several pieces. One tall maple with two lower trees added makes a group that does not look planted by a ruler.
The package holds one finished planted tree. Terrain and fixing material are not part of it. The model is placed into the finished surface of a scene.
Before setting it in, it is worth checking how the tree stands. On finished models the trunk tends to lean slightly, which is common in nature, but on a tree planted along a sidewalk it looks better upright; the lean can be adjusted by bending the pin.
The crown takes gentle additions, for example sprinkling leaf material onto the spots where it is thinner.
