A photo background from the Maxx Darth Black line measuring 200x300 mm. The format matches what it is used for most often: individual figures, busts and smaller models. A black background is the safest choice in modeling photography, because it adds no color of its own to a shot and lets the transitions and shades on the model stand out, which are lost on a light base.
The key to a good shot on a dark background is light led from the side, or from above and from the side. Direct light from the front turns black into a bland gray area, and on top of that every speck shows on it. Stand the model a little way from the background, not right up against it, so that a sharp shadow does not form behind it. It is a good idea to go over the background with a soft brush or a blower before shooting, because dust is seen far more on a dark surface than on a light one. And if you are shooting with a phone, turn the flash off and add a lamp from the side instead.
For modelers and collectors who want to show their finished work so that it looks as good as it does in the flesh. For the smaller format it is at the same time the easiest first step toward shooting at home without acquiring a whole studio.
