MDF Old World Bases - Square 30 mm

MDF Old World Bases - Square 30 mm

MDF Old World Bases - Square 30 mm is a square gaming base 30 mm to a side from the Spanish label Green Stuff World, from the range given in the name as Old World. It is not a display base for a display case: the square format belongs to games where figures are drawn up in close formations, and there the size of the base directly determines how wide and how deep a unit is.

Why a square and why exactly 30 mm

In formations the bases touch along their edges, so the individual squares make up a continuous block. The width of the rank, the number of models in the front and the depth of the formation follow from that directly, as does where movement is measured from and where the unit reaches the opponent. The 30 mm size is therefore not a cosmetic detail: a single figure on a different format throws the block out and the unit loses its alignment. When adding to a collection it is worth keeping one size across the whole unit.

When to reach for it

• You need a square base exactly 30 mm to a side.
• You draw figures up in close formations where the bases touch along their edges.
• You are filling in missing pieces in a unit already laid out.
• You are looking for a gaming base, not a decorative plinth for a display case.

Who it is for

For players of battle games with formations and for collectors of historical and fantasy figures who want a whole unit on one format. The shape and the size follow from the name; the number of pieces in the package and the thickness are given by the manufacturer on the packaging.
