MEDIUM BLUE

A medium blue shade

A model paint in a medium blue shade. It finds a use wherever a clean blue tone is needed: on the surfaces of a model, on small accessories and as a starting shade for mixing a tone of your own. Blue is at the same time the color on which the difference between careful and hurried work is most visible, because a saturated tone shows up every unevenness of the base without mercy.

Thinning and application

The thinner intended for this line and the thinning ratio are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging; go by those instructions. Shake the bottle thoroughly before use, otherwise the pigment will stay settled at the bottom and the shade will come out lighter than it should. Lay it on in thin coats and let them flash off between one another; one heavy coat floods the engraving and gathers at the edges. A saturated blue covers less well than a gray or a green, so reckon with more coats and with a light base on which the shade will come out. After work, wipe the thread and the inside of the cap, as dried paint on the thread is the most common reason why a bottle will not open next time.

Work tips

• Always try the shade out on a piece of plastic; on a model it looks different from in the bottle.
• Use a light undercoat on the base, as blue will drown on a dark one.
• Level the area under the decals with gloss varnish, as a decal silvers on a matte surface.
• Seal the finished paintwork with a varnish to suit the sheen the result is to have.
• Store the paint in a closed bottle away from frost and direct sunlight.
