About product

Mineshima Micro Nipper E101

A modeling nipper from the Japanese brand Mineshima in micro format. The word Micro in the name does not mean only a smaller tool but above all a smaller head and jaws. That is a property nothing can replace the moment the edge has to get between finished parts, into the inside of an assembled unit or up to the sprue gate of a small part around which there is no room left.

Where a small head pays off

The typical situation looks like this: the part is attached to the sprue by a gate that sits tight next to a fine detail. The large head of a nipper cannot reach it without catching the detail. A smaller tool gets to the place at a better angle and the cut is cleaner, because the edge meets it square. Small nippers likewise come into play when building figures, small accessories and models where the parts themselves are a few millimeters in size.

Use

  • Separating small parts from the sprue in cramped places.
  • Work between finished parts and inside units that are already assembled.
  • Building figures, accessories and fine details.
  • Shortening thin sprue gates where a large head cannot meet them.

Work tips

Micro nippers are a fine tool and should be treated accordingly. A forced cut into a sprue or a thick gate is not for them; use larger and stronger nippers for that. Cut with a margin from the part, because plastic turns pale under the edge and the mark stays visible even under paint. Protect the edge from hard material, that is, from photo-etched parts, metal pins and strings. Storing it apart from the other tools will lengthen the life of the tool more than anything else.

Who the nippers are for

For modelers who work in a small scale or often finish details on a model that is already part-built. They will not be enough as the only nippers in a workshop, but as a complement to larger ones they will save a lot of careful maneuvering.

The dimensions, the material and the hardness of the edge are stated on the packaging of the tool. The tool is a modeling nipper.

FAQ

It reaches a sprue gate around which there is no room left, and the edge meets it square. The cut is therefore cleaner and there is no danger of catching a detail nearby.

It is not intended for that. A forced cut belongs to larger and more robust nippers; micro nippers would be damaged by it.

The sister type E102 carries the designation for plastic in its name. What exactly differs between the two tools in their form is stated on the packaging of each.

We do not recommend it. Hard material chips the edge of a modeling nipper and the damage cannot be put right.
