The postwar Luftwaffe in eight tones. The palette covers the Norm 62, 72 and 76 regulations including the naval variant and adds the aluminum shades of the first jet machines.
Responsibility details are not available.
The postwar Luftwaffe governed the finishes of its machines by regulations which were given brief designations after the year of their introduction. Four successive systems arose in this way and this palette covers all of them, including the special variant for naval aviation.
The lower surfaces are dealt with by a trio of tones: silver gray RAL 7001, white aluminum RAL 9006 and light gray RAL 7035. Each of them belongs to a different regulation and to a different group of types, from the Fiat G.91 and F-84 machines through reconnaissance and fighter twin-engine aircraft to the Panavia Tornado and the Sea Lynx helicopters. The upper surfaces carry basalt gray RAL 7012 and yellow olive RAL 6014, which hold across all the regulations. They are complemented by luminous orange RAL 2005 for the warning markings.
The last two items belong to the oldest stage. Before camouflage was introduced at all, the first postwar machines flew in bare metal and the lower surfaces of the wings received only a light gray to FS16515. The lineup therefore reaches from the fifties to today's combat aircraft and suits the building of a whole line of development side by side.
