Six shades for the armored equipment of the Ukrainian ground forces. The Orange Line range rests on a lacquer binder and is applied with an airbrush.
Responsibility details are not available.
For decades the Ukrainian ground forces painted their armored vehicles with a single protective green coat inherited from the Soviet army. From the middle of the last decade that changed: tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and wheeled carriers began to wear a multi-tone pattern in which irregular brown bands and black shadows run across a khaki base. Alongside that, vehicles delivered from abroad also appeared in the units, their finish derived from quite different climatic zones.
The set contains six shades: sand yellow, chocolate brown, a black in the shade used in allied armies, dark green, dark yellow and desert pink. This make-up covers both the home three-tone pattern and the lighter tones on machines with a different history.
Anyone building a scene with several machines side by side will appreciate having tones from both worlds meet in one package. The difference between a vehicle in the home pattern and a machine with a lighter finish is the quickest way of showing a viewer that a unit is put together from several sources.
Orange Line is of the lacquer type, and in that it differs from water-thinnable acrylics in three respects. First, it holds exceptionally hard, so it will stand masking with tape and subsequent going over with pigment without being torn away. Second, it dries quickly and smoothly, which comes in useful on large areas of armor. Third, it needs its own thinner and proper ventilation of the workplace.
That is precisely why the range suits above all the base coat and the camouflage pattern, that is the steps after which a whole series of further layers still follows. A hard surface beneath them is the insurance that the underside will not dissolve during washing or when working with oil paints.
