Autumn Larch 25-35 mm — a Model Scene model tree

A model of a larch in its autumn foliage, 25 to 35 millimeters tall, from Model Scene. The larch is the only common conifer here whose needles turn golden in autumn and then fall, so the autumn version has the characteristic golden-yellow to rusty foliage you will not find on a spruce or a pine. That is exactly what makes it right for scenes set at the end of the year, where coniferous growth otherwise stays uniformly green. This smallest size serves as a young tree, as filler in the background or as part of a denser stand.

Use and scales

• A height of 25-35 mm matches a tree roughly 2 to 3 meters tall in H0 scale (1:87).
• In TT scale (1:120) it is a tree about 3 to 4 meters tall, and in N scale (1:160) a tree roughly 4 to 5.5 meters tall.
• In 1:35 scale it corresponds to a little under one meter — usable as a bush, a young sapling or part of a thicket.
• In larger scales it serves to suggest depth, because smaller trees at the back visually stretch the space.

Installation tips

The trunk is set into a pre-drilled hole in the base and fixed with a drop of PVA glue or from a hot glue gun. Hide the joint between trunk and terrain with grass, leaves or scatter so that the seating point does not show. An autumn larch looks best in a group with a few green trees — the contrast of colors brings the scene to life. It pays to sprinkle a little fallen needle litter of the same shade under the tree, which creates a natural transition to the ground.
