A section from the modular Modular System Workshop line of the AMMO of Mig Jimenez brand, named after the drybrushing technique. The line consists of parts that are bought individually and added as needed; this one is intended for storing drybrushing brushes separately.

Why these brushes have a place of their own

Drybrushing is a technique in which a minimum of paint is picked up in the bristles, the rest is wiped off onto paper and only the edges and protruding details are picked out. The brush works flat and against the lie of the bristles, which will permanently splay it within a few models. That is why brushes whose shaping is already behind them are used for drybrushing, and it is essential not to mix them with good tips for detail work. Otherwise one evening you will reach for the brush for decals and find that a week ago you scrubbed a whole armor plate with it. A separate section rules this mistake out purely by keeping the two groups apart.

What to watch out for on first use

• Put brushes into the section completely dry, because drybrushing is done with a minimum of paint but pigment residue in the bristles hardens just the same.
• Reserve it strictly for this technique, otherwise the whole point of separating them disappears.
• Brushes that are already too splayed for drybrushing should be kept for pigments and dry powders, not put back among the painting ones.
• The dimensions and the way it joins other parts are given on the box and by the manufacturer.
