Wetland medium — Model Scene

Wetland vegetation means tall grasses, sedges and reeds that grow in dense clumps on waterlogged areas and by water. This product is finished growth in the medium shade, that is in the tone that forms the natural base in a graded range. Nothing is assembled and nothing painted — the growth is laid down, glued and the surroundings finished off. The manufacturer is the Czech brand Model Scene.

The medium shade as the base of a scene

The medium tone is the most universal and suits best as the predominant color of a wetland, to which you then add lighter growth on sunlit edges and darker growth in shade and by deeper water. Such grading is the main thing that tells a credible wetland from a flat single-colored area of reeds. It finds a use at pools, ponds, stream floodplains, flooded ditches and waterlogged meadows. In dioramas with vehicles a wetland is also rewarding because it logically explains mud and sunken wheels or tracks.

Usage tips

• Plant the clumps irregularly, with gaps and varying density.
• Put the densest growth where there is the most water and thin it out toward the land.
• Combine with the lighter and darker versions, so that the area gains depth.
• Fill the transitions with a muddy scatter, fine scatter and dry plant remains.
• With an imitation water surface, check the order of work for the system you use in advance.
