The powder is mixed with water into a thick slurry, which can be shaped with the fingers or spread with a tool like a mason's trowel. Once dry, a hard shell is left with a coarse surface and a sand shade, so even unpainted terrain looks natural. The package holds 907 g of dry mix.
The compound holds its shape and therefore suits rocky hills, banks along roads, the beds of dried-up streams, desert plains and coarsely broken slopes. It serves just as well for filling the gap between a finished casting and the base, or for piling up small heaps of earth at an excavation.
Always mix only as much as you can work through, because a slurry that has set cannot be mixed back. The rest of the powder belongs in a tightly closed container away from damp, otherwise it sets into lumps. Tools only need rinsing with water before the compound dries.
A dried surface takes liquid pigments from the range of the same name, so color can be washed straight into the material and left to soak in deep. Lighter spots can be brought out with a dry brush, and the texture of stone or the mark of a wheel can be pressed into the damp compound. Scatter material and static grass are sprinkled into the surface while it is still wet, and they then hold without any further glue.
