A steel modeling paint from Mr.Paint's Aqua line, code MRP-A013. A darker metallic shade for stressed and worn parts.
Responsibility details are not available.
Steel is a darker, less bright metallic shade than silver. It is used where the metal is neither polished nor new: on weapon barrels, exhaust pipes, suspension piston rods, tool edges, running surfaces, and areas worn by the crew. On a model it looks more convincing than a bright silver precisely because it shines less.
Smooth the surface, wash it, and degrease it — metallic shades do not tolerate grease or scratches underneath. Mix the bottle thoroughly, as the pigment settles at the bottom. Apply in thin coats with a short pause between them; a single heavy coat separates into blotches. Thin with the thinner made for this paint line; the manufacturer states the thinning ratio and recommended procedure in the instructions.
Steel works well with the dry-brush technique. Run an almost-dry brush over the edges and raised details of a part, and the metal will appear exactly where it would wear through in reality. Worn spots can also be dabbed with a piece of sponge — just do fewer of them than seems right at first glance. On exhaust parts, steel takes a dark wash and rust pigments applied on top well. Combining it with silver works too: leave silver for polished surfaces and steel for the rest.
For modelers finishing details on military vehicles, aircraft, and figures who need a metal that does not overpower the surrounding shades. It is a stand-alone shade; thinner and other accessories are supplied separately, unless stated otherwise.
