About product

Interior Dark Dull Green — Mr.Paint acrylic modeling paint, Aqua line

A dark dull green for the interiors of American aircraft of the Second World War. The manufacturer Mr.Paint itself classes this shade among American aircraft colors. Note: modelers often associate the words dull green with Japanese interiors — that does not apply to this paint, as the manufacturer lists Japanese cockpit shades separately. The paint belongs to the water-thinnable Aqua acrylic line and it is a modeling paint, not a kit.

Watch out for a mix-up between the lines. Mr.Paint became known above all for its lacquer line and it lists the same shade names in both lines — so you cannot tell them apart by the name. This paint is from the Aqua acrylic line: it is thinned with water or with the Aqua acrylic thinner of the same manufacturer, not with lacquer thinner. An acrylic is gentler to plastic and almost odorless to work with.

Dark Dull Green or Bronze-Green? Do not confuse them

The manufacturer also has Interior Bronze-Green and Interior Green ANA 611 in the same line. All three are American interior greens, but each belongs to a different period: the bronze green is the earlier one, this dark dull green replaced it in production during the war and the later standard became the interior green ANA 611. They are not interchangeable versions of one color — choose according to which machine and from which period you are building, and follow the kit instructions.

Use

  • Cockpits, cockpit tubs, instrument panels and interior parts of American aircraft of the Second World War.
  • Airbrushing as well as brushwork; the consistency is adjusted with water or the Aqua acrylic thinner.
  • Apply it in thin coats over cured primer; the covering power of dark greens is best that way.
  • Pick out the interior details with a dark wash in the recesses and a light dry brush on the edges.

Who the paint is for

For modelers of American aircraft of the Second World War who want a period-correct interior and who distinguish between the individual generations of American interior greens. Suitable also for those who prefer water-thinnable acrylics to lacquer paints.

A modeling paint, not a kit. A water-thinnable acrylic is gentler to work with than the lacquer lines, but ventilate while airbrushing all the same and do not inhale the aerosol. Keep out of the reach of children. Shake the paint thoroughly before use.

FAQ

It is not. Modelers often associate the words dull green with Japanese cockpits, but the manufacturer classes this paint among American aircraft colors of the Second World War. Japanese cockpit shades are listed separately.

Both are American interior greens, but from different periods. The bronze green is older; this dark dull green replaced it in production during the war. Later still the interior green ANA 611 became the standard. Choose according to the type and period of the machine.

A water-thinnable acrylic from the Aqua line. Mr.Paint lists the same shade names in its lacquer line as well, so you cannot tell them apart by the name — this one is thinned with water or the Aqua acrylic thinner, never with lacquer thinner.

The Aqua line is designed that way. Depending on your airbrush and pressure you can adjust the consistency with water or the Aqua acrylic thinner of the same manufacturer. Always try the spray on a test surface first.
