MS12 - Dump Set

Dump Set - a Lifecolor paint set

A themed set of modeling paints from the Italian brand Lifecolor. The name points to a dump and discarded waste, that is to a subject that appears in dioramas often and is at the same time hard to paint from an ordinary palette. The shades are chosen so that they go together and can be used on materials that age side by side and dirty one another.

What the set is suited to

A heap of waste is treacherous for a modeler precisely because nothing in it is new. Rusty sheet metal, weathered wood, crumpled paper, dried mud and faded fabric each have a different texture, but the same deposit of dust connects them. When the shades are taken from different lines, the heap falls apart into a collection of unrelated objects. A themed set holds a common character, so the scene looks like one place in one kind of weather. It comes into its own in dioramas with military and civilian equipment, in city scenes, in yards, depots and abandoned buildings.

Usage tips

• Start from the darkest tone and add the lighter shades on the raised edges, leaving the depths dark.
• One common dusty tone laid over the whole heap at the end ties it into a single whole.
• Stir the bottle thoroughly before use, otherwise settled pigment will shift the resulting shade.
• Work in thin layers, otherwise small objects will lose their outlines.
• Choose the thinner and the cleaner according to the instructions of the maker of the paint, not according to habits from another line.

Who the set is for

For builders of dioramas and vignettes who are dealing with a filled background of a scene, and for modelers who want the shades for weathered materials together instead of putting them together from individual bottles.

Caution: Keep the paints out of the reach of children, work in a ventilated room and close the bottles carefully after use.
