Photo-etched mesh with a hexagonal opening of 1.85 x 1.7 mm from the maker Aber. A metal sheet with a honeycomb pattern for grilles, covers and protective screens on models.

A modeling material from the Polish maker Aber, not a kit. A sheet of thin photo-etched metal whose openings are not square in shape but regular hexagons measuring 1.85 x 1.7 mm, that is a honeycomb pattern. This is the coarsest of the variants offered in the range, so the pattern is distinct even from a distance and on a model it works as a pronounced surface element, not merely as a neutral filling.
With a pronounced pattern the orientation matters - before cutting, consider how the hexagons are to lie on the area, because two neighboring grilles turned out of step show up at once. Transfer the shape with a paper template, cut with sharp sheet-metal shears or with a scalpel on a glass support and level the edges with a file. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue around the perimeter, never in the middle of the area. Degrease the metal before painting and apply a thin metal primer. A coarse opening will take a slightly heavier coat of paint, but even so spray from a distance and in thin coats.
For modelers who need a honeycomb pattern, typically on modern vehicles, where honeycomb grilles are in common use, and for builders of large scales, where the structure is meant to be distinct.
This is a modeling material, not a kit. The edges of cut metal are sharp, so work with care. Glue, paints and tools are not included in the package.
