Responsibility details are not available.
The designation Novelty Siding belongs to wooden boarding in which the upper edge of every board is cut away into a shallow groove. On the face, a flat area therefore alternates with a gentle curve, and the shadow along the joint reads more strongly than on plain clapboard. The board spacing is 3.7 mm, the sheet is 1.0 mm thick and measures 15 x 30 cm. In railroad HO one board works out at roughly 32 cm of real width, and in 1:48 at just under 18 cm.
Boarding of this kind was carried above all by North American timber buildings - houses, station buildings, warehouses beside a siding, sheds and farm lean-tos. The coarser spacing comes into its own on large walls, where a finer division would blur, and equally on models in the larger sizes, where the texture is meant to read even from a distance. A single sheet takes the wall of a two-story building including the gable soffit, so one piece is usually enough for a smaller structure.
You deal with the corner of a building by letting one part overhang and butting the other against it from the side; the overhang is then sanded flush or hidden under a corner trim. Always run the cuts along the engraving, so that the outermost board stays whole. Solvent cement is used to join the parts, as it softens the edges and lets them fuse into one piece. Before painting, wipe the surface clean of grease from your fingers and unify the base with a thin primer - a darker glaze will then pick out every joint by itself and the wood will gain depth.
Supplied as single sheets.
