Six AK shades for the autumn side of reversible camouflage smocks with the oak leaf, palm tree and plane tree patterns. A brown-toned palette with a shadow, a base, highlights and three tones of the spots.

Camouflage smocks with the oak leaf, palm tree and plane tree patterns were sewn to be reversible. One side was pitched in green for spring and summer, the other in brown and rust for autumn and winter, so a soldier changed his camouflage by turning the garment inside out. This set covers exactly the second of the two sides and is put together so that it is enough for a whole smock without buying further bottles.
Three shades create the volume: a very dark Brown Black for the deepest folds, the main brown-gray tone of the cloth and a rusty gray for the tops of surfaces and the creases on the sleeves. The remaining three colors belong to the pattern itself: dark spots, richly brown fields and light brown accents. The layout matches the way the pattern was printed, that is, from the darkest layer to the lightest.
The surest route is through a finished base. First the shadows and the highlights are painted in and only then the spots are drawn, because otherwise they would be lost under the later layers. In small scales it pays to suggest the pattern rather than to copy it literally, otherwise the surface darkens and the figure flattens out.
The set is aimed at figures from the second half of the war, at scenes from the Eastern Front and from the winter in the Ardennes, and it also suits helmet covers and camouflage pack covers sewn from the same cloth. One small point at the end: the brown pitch is more rewarding at a first attempt than the green one, because inaccuracies in the spots get lost in a warm palette. Anyone trying the pattern for the first time can start here and leave the other side for another time.
