OLIVE GREEN

An olive green for parched landscape

An olive tone belongs to vegetation that the summer has burned or that grows on poor stony soil. It comes into its own at the edges of field roads, on the slopes above ditches and everywhere a saturated green growth would come across as too fresh. In a scene with military equipment it holds a late summer mood, on a layout it complements grass areas whose color has already gone over into yellow.

A raw material, not a finished piece of scenery

The package holds a light colored foam broken up into small clumps. This is not a finished bush that would merely be stood in place, but the material out of which growth is yet to arise. A piece of the size needed is torn off, loosened out in the fingers and pressed onto the terrain. The finer grain of this range suits low vegetation, overgrown field margins and covering the transition between the terrain and the foot of a tree. The coverage given is 353 cm², that is roughly a square with a side of just under nineteen centimeters.

A procedure that has proved itself

The area is coated with a thin PVA glue, the foliage is laid on and lightly pressed down. Once it has dried the loose excess is tapped off and can be used again. Should a modeler want lively growth, two or three shades are mixed and laid in irregular islands, because a uniform area of a single color gives the artificial origin away at first glance. The foam is colored throughout its volume, so the shade does not rub off, and it will take a final misting with a thinned paint as well. The material does not dictate a scale, it will serve from large dioramas to small layouts.
