Paint Set - Bright Green

Paint Set - Bright Green: working with one color across its whole breadth

Paint Set - Bright Green is a set of Green Stuff World paints built around a bright green. Unlike themed packages this is not a selection of various colors but one color taken across its whole breadth, from the shaded areas to the lightest edges. It is exactly this type of palette that a modeler needs at the moment they want a surface drawn out rather than merely painted evenly.

Why a tonal family is the hardest to source piece by piece

Anyone can pick a base green. The problem starts with the intermediate tones that form the transition. In a color chart they show as small squares between which the difference is barely noticeable, so the buying is blind and at home it turns out that two tones are practically identical while a hole gapes between two others. A set pitched around one color sidesteps this problem, because its very point is that the tones should follow one another.

How to work with a tonal set

• Start with the middle value and only then add light and shadow.
• Blend the transitions on a wet palette, the boundaries are then not visible.
• Put light only where it would fall on the model, not over the whole surface.
• Apply thinly and repeatedly; one thick coat floods the transition.
• Mix the tones with each other too, which gives you further intermediate steps.

Who the set is for

For figure painters and modelers who want more than a uniform coat on green surfaces, and for anyone who wants to learn to work with light within a single color.

Keep out of the reach of children, work in a well-ventilated room.
