Fan palm (1:32/1:35) is a Model Scene scenic vegetation accessory for 1:32 and 1:35 scale. It is not a kit but a plant for a diorama.
Responsibility details are not available.
Vegetation tells a viewer where to place a scene faster than any other element. A palm with fan-shaped leaves moves a diorama to warm regions at once, to the Mediterranean, to North Africa, to the Middle East and to Pacific scenes. This accessory from the Model Scene brand is prepared for 1:32 and 1:35 scale, that is for the usual sizes of figures and ground equipment.
A fan palm suits urban as well as rural views in a subtropical setting, coastal scenes, roadsides and buildings with a yard. In a scene it works as a vertical that breaks up a flat composition and at the same time gives the viewer a sense of scale. It also works well as a screen: a palm placed in the foreground frames the view of the main model.
Before you glue anything, set the plants out dry on the base and look at the scene from the height of a viewer's eye rather than from above. Do not plant the palms at regular intervals; in nature they grow in irregular groups and singly. A drop of PVA or super glue is enough to fix them; the transition into the terrain at the foot should then be covered with grass, sand or pigment, so that the plant does not look placed on the surface. Shape the leaves lightly before fitting, as a drooping, slightly bent form is more believable than perfect symmetry. The shade can be unified with a very light overspray from a distance, but always try it on one plant first, because paint applied too close weighs the leaves down and sticks them together.
The accessory is supplied as scenic vegetation to be set into your own base. Glue, terrain materials and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
