Agama Wash WV 10 grass green, water-based

A green wash is a specialist, not an all-rounder. While gray and brown washes are used to pick out detail in the ordinary way, grass green solves a different task, namely biological grime. Everywhere it is damp, algae and moss settle on hardware, stones and wood, and it is precisely that greenish film that turns a model into a thing that stood somewhere and went through something. The product is water-based, is thinned and cleaned with water, with no solvents and no smell.

Use

• It is applied over a dried coat sealed with varnish. Without a sealing layer a water-based wash can attack the acrylic paint underneath.
• For green grime work from the top down, so that it runs where water would have run down it, that is under seams, around rivets and in places where damp lingers.
• Let the wash dry freely and wipe the excess away only partly, as unevenness is desirable here.
• The effect can be built up by repeating. One coat gives only a hint, three or four create a marked film.
• Shake the bottle before use, as the pigment settles to the bottom.

Where grass green is useful

It does most work on ship models, where algae cling to the submerged part of the hull, to anchor chains and around the outlets. It also serves well on diorama elements, that is on stone walls, paving, wooden fences and stumps, where a green cast gives away shade and damp at once. On military hardware it is used on the lower part of the hull, on the fenders and in the running gear of vehicles that moved through grass and waterlogged terrain. It can also do fine work as a tonal shift, when you need to pull a whole area unobtrusively toward green.
