About product

Dry Mud Powder Pigment from Lifecolor

A dry powder pigment from Lifecolor in the shade of dried mud. It is laid on dry with a brush and differs from the ordinary dust tones not only in color but above all in where it belongs. Dust comes down from above and evenly; mud is picked up from below and unevenly, and it is precisely this difference that makes the result convincing.

The logic of the coat

Dried mud holds low. The heaviest layer belongs on the running gear, the wheels, the tracks and around them, in the wheel wells, on the lower edge of the body and on the steps. It gets any higher only where it splashes up from the wheels, that is, onto the inner sides of the fenders and the lower parts of the side panels. On the upper surfaces of superstructures mud essentially does not belong, except for the places the crew climbs in by and where their boots carry it.

Unevenness is the intention

A continuous layer of the same thickness over the whole underside looks like a coat of paint, not like mud. Work in islands, therefore: denser where the deposit catches, that is, behind projections, around rivets and in corners, and weaker on smooth areas. Take the excess off with a dry brush straight downward, so that running traces form. A darker shade pressed into the deepest places suggests that the mud has not quite dried there yet, while a lighter dust drawn across the edges suggests a dried surface.

Who it will serve

  • builders of tracked and wheeled vehicles
  • modelers of dioramas with churned-up terrain
  • everyone who wants to build a patina in layers and control it fully

A dry pigment is a loose powder. Do not work with it in a draft, do not breathe it in, do not blow the excess off with your mouth and wash your hands after work. Keep out of the reach of children.

FAQ

Dust settles from above and more or less evenly on horizontal surfaces. Mud is picked up from below, holds low by the running gear and is deliberately uneven.

Yes, combining is in fact what you want. A darker tone in the deepest places and a lighter dust across the edges give the layer depth.

As a rule up to the lower part of the side panels and onto the inner sides of the fenders, where it splashes up from the wheels. The upper surfaces stay clean except for the places the crew climbs in by.
