Industrial plasteline differs from the kind made for children mainly in that it keeps a firm structure and does not crumble. It can be shaped with the fingers as well as with modeling spatulas, the surface stays smooth once it has been worked over and it leaves no greasy fingerprints. Because the material does not dry out, you can set an unfinished shape aside for several weeks and then carry on with the work as if nothing had happened. The package weighs 150 grams, and the orange color helps in judging a shape, because shadows and edges read better on a saturated shade than on a neutral gray.
It proves itself in roughing out terrain, in building a master of a shape before casting, as a filler of cavities or as a temporary support of parts while gluing. It can be worked at lower temperatures as well, where other putties stiffen, and the finished shape takes paint. Another interesting point is that it can be mixed with two-part modeling putties of the Milliput and Magic Sculpt type.
The material holds sulfates, and for that reason it is not suited to making silicone molds — silicone would not cure on its surface. If you plan to cast, use another material for the master or transfer the shape into a curing putty. Ordinary modeling tools are enough to work it, nothing else has to be bought.
The material is easier to work once you have kneaded it in your hand for a while; the warmth of the palm gives it back its pliability. Wipe the tools with a cloth after the work, no detergent is needed. Leftovers of the material can be joined back into one piece, so no waste arises while building terrain and one package lasts for several projects in a row.
