About product

AMMO of Mig Jimenez PLW NEUTRAL BROWN - a Panel Line Wash, 35 ml

PLW NEUTRAL BROWN from AMMO of Mig Jimenez is an enamel wash in a 35 ml package. The abbreviation PLW stands for Panel Line Wash, that is a wash for panel lines. It is not a kit but modeling chemistry for weathering.

A wash is a very thin, heavily diluted paint. At the touch of a brush it runs by capillary action into engraved lines, seams and recesses, where it stays, and once the excess is wiped off the surrounding area it picks out the way the surface is broken up: panels, riveted seams, hatches or landing gear details. A model gains depth with it and stops looking flat.

The neutral brown shade is more versatile and more natural than pure black, which on most subjects is too hard and too contrasty. Brown resembles real soaked-in grime and settled dust and sits well with green and brown camouflage alike.

Use

  • Stir thoroughly before use, as the pigment settles at the bottom of the bottle.
  • Apply it onto a cured gloss varnish. That is essential with washes: on a glossy surface the wash runs cleanly into the lines and the excess can be wiped off with no stains or tide marks.
  • Touch the line with a thin brush and let the wash flow in; you do not have to spread it over the whole area.
  • Let it set and wipe the excess away with a cloth, a cotton bud or a brush dampened in a suitable thinner, typically odorless thinner or mineral spirits for enamels. Wipe from the top down so that natural streaks form as well.
  • Work in layers: it is better to build the effect up gradually than to have to remove it.
  • Seal the finished weathering with a matte or semi-matte varnish.

Who it is for

For modelers of aircraft, military vehicles, ships, trains and sci-fi subjects who want to pick out the way a surface is broken up. Neutral brown is versatile and a good choice as a first wash in a collection.

Safety: a solvent-based enamel product, flammable. Keep away from open flame and sources of ignition. Work in a well-ventilated area, do not inhale the vapors and protect your airways and skin (gloves). Keep out of the reach of children. It is not a toy.

The neutral brown shade is more versatile and more natural. Pure black is usually too hard and too contrasty on most subjects, whereas brown resembles real soaked-in grime and settled dust and sits better with green, brown and civilian shades.

Stir the bottle thoroughly. Apply it onto a cured gloss varnish, touch the line with a thin brush and let the wash flow in. Once it has set, wipe the excess away with a cloth, a cotton bud or a brush dampened in odorless thinner or mineral spirits. Work in layers.

On a glossy, cured surface the wash runs cleanly into the lines and the excess can be wiped off completely, with no stains or tide marks. On a matte surface the wash catches in the microtexture and leaves unwanted streaks.
