A block for finishing a sanded surface from U-STAR is a hand-held aid in the form of a block with which the modeler levels and cleans up a surface after sanding.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is bench equipment, not a kit. According to the name it is a block held in the hand and worked against a surface that has already been sanded. The name does not make clear whether it is used to remove the marks left by abrasive paper or, conversely, to knock back the gloss of a polished spot. Check the material, the grit and the dimensions on the box.
Why the block is called a block
The shape is the whole point of this group of tools. Abrasive paper held between the fingers follows the pressure of the finger, so waves appear on the model and the edges get rounded off before the surface is level. A rigid block spreads the pressure over its whole length and the surface stays flat. It shows most on large flat parts: the sides of a hull, fuselage panels, a wing or a deck.
It suits above all builders of vehicles, ships and larger aircraft, where you work with extensive flat surfaces and a wave left by sanding shows immediately under the clear coat. It also serves well modelers who fill joints and want to level them without rounding the surrounding edges off.
Sanded plastic makes a fine dust that should not be inhaled. Work with extraction or wet, and keep wiping the surface so that clogged abrasive does not start behaving like a scraper.
