Field grass, green from Woodland Scenics is a bundle of long fine fibers for modeling tall grass. It is used for tufts by roads, the banks of watercourses and overgrown areas.

Unlike loose scatter, which forms a low carpet of grass, these are long fine fibers intended for tall grass. Small strands are taken from the material, glued upright into the base and after drying trimmed to the height you need. The result is tufts that have volume, direction and irregularity, that is, exactly what tells a neglected field boundary from a mown lawn. The green shade matches grass in the full season and can be combined with ocher and straw tones in a transition between fresh and dried-out vegetation.
Take a small strand of fibers, even one end up and dip it into thicker PVA glue. Stand the strand on the base, hold it until the glue sets and once it has dried completely trim the tuft with scissors to a height matching the scale. It looks natural when the heights of the tufts differ and when they are spread over a scene irregularly rather than in an even grid. It is a good idea to mask the base of a tuft with a little loose scatter or natural soil, so that the glue is not visible. The shade can be fine-tuned with a light mist of very heavily thinned acrylic paint.
