About product

Precision Masking Tape 0.75 mm x 18 m (Hobby 2000)

Precision Masking Tape 0.75 mm x 18 m from Hobby 2000 is a modeling tool, not a kit: you do not get parts to glue but a roll of self-adhesive masking tape. It belongs to the Precision range, that is straight, accurate tapes for straight lines and sharp edges. The width of 0.75 mm is the narrowest of the whole range: you use it where even a millimeter is too much, on the thinnest camouflage demarcation lines, micro-frames, fine stripes and small masking around details. The roll holds 18 m.

Why not ordinary sticky tape

Office tape has adhesive sized for a wall, not for a model. Modeling tape has a low, controlled tack: when peeled off it does not pull paint or primer away. It has a sharply cut edge, so the transition between colors is clean and paint does not bleed underneath. And once removed it leaves no adhesive residue.

Precision or For Curves? Do not mix them up

This is the Precision range, a straight tape for straight lines. You cannot bend it into an arc; on a curve it starts to wrinkle and paint bleeds under the ripples. For arcs, curves and rounded transitions Hobby 2000 has a separate range, Masking Tape For Curves, a flexible, stretchable tape that follows an arc without wrinkling. The two ranges complement each other.

Use

  • The thinnest camouflage demarcation lines and micro-masking around small details.
  • Thin frames and edgings where 1 mm is already too wide.
  • Bounding an area: lay the narrow tape along the line and cover the rest with a mask or paper.
  • Once the tape is down, press it with the edge of a fingernail or a toothpick so that paint does not bleed under it.
  • Peel it off slowly and at a sharp angle back over itself, never straight up.

Who it is for

For modelers who do genuinely fine work and need the narrowest possible straight line. A more universal width for ordinary canopy frames and edges is 2 mm, for glazing frames and thin lines 1 mm, and for wider frames and transitions 3 mm.

A painting tool, not a kit. Paints, thinners and the model are not included in the package. On delicate surfaces test the adhesion on a hidden spot first.

FAQ

No. The Precision range is a straight tape for straight lines: on a curve it wrinkles and paint bleeds under the ripples. For arcs and rounded transitions use the separate Masking Tape For Curves range from the same manufacturer, which is flexible and follows an arc without wrinkling.

0.75 mm is the narrowest choice, for the thinnest demarcation lines, micro-frames and masking tight around details. As soon as you need a slightly more stable tape that holds and lays down better, on glazing frames for example, 1 mm is more practical.

Ordinary tape has adhesive that is too aggressive: when peeled off it may pull away paint and primer, and it leaves adhesive residue. Modeling tape has a low, controlled tack and a sharply cut edge, thanks to which a clean transition with no bleeding is created.

Once the tape is down, press it with the edge of a fingernail or a toothpick along the whole length of the edge that will be sprayed. Apply the paint in thin coats and peel slowly at a sharp angle back over itself, not straight up.
