Precision Masking Tape 2 mm x 18 m from the manufacturer Hobby 2000 is a modeling aid, not a kit: you are buying a roll of self-adhesive masking tape, not model parts. It is part of the Precision range, that is straight and accurate tapes for straight lines and sharp edges. The width of 2 mm is the most universal: narrow enough to be led along canopy frames and dividing lines, and yet wide enough to be held comfortably in the fingers without twisting. The roll holds 18 m.

Modeling tape is not household tape

The difference lies in three points. The tack is low and controlled, so on removal it does not pull off a coat of paint or primer, which ordinary paper tape can do. The edge is sharply cut, which gives a sharp transition with no seepage instead of a blurred line. And after peeling, no adhesive stays on the model.

Precision is straight, and curves need a different range

You will not bend this tape into a curve. The Precision range is built for straight lines; as soon as you try to lead it along a curve it starts to crease and paint gets under the wrinkles. Hobby 2000 has a separate range for that, Masking Tape For Curves, a flexible and stretchable tape which follows a curve without creasing. If you are masking rounded camouflage transitions, that is exactly the one you need, and it is a separate product.

Use

• Canopy frames and glazing, where 1 mm is already needlessly slender.
• Straight dividing lines between colors and masking edges and transitions.
• Protecting sharp edges and straight panels from overspray when airbrushing.
• Once stuck down, press the tape with the edge of a fingernail or a toothpick so that paint does not seep under it.
• Peel it off slowly at a sharp angle, back over itself, and never perpendicular to the surface.

Who it is for

The best choice if you want one width to cover the ordinary masking jobs. Add 1 mm for finer details and 0.75 mm for the thinnest lines and micro masking; 3 mm is more suitable for wider frames and transitions.

An aid for painting, not a kit. Paints, thinners and the model are not included in the package. On delicate surfaces, test the adhesion in a hidden spot first.
